I really enjoy going for hikes through the woods. I love being surrounded by nature. Of course, fall is best for this because of all the leaves. I hadn't been hiking in a while. Probably because it's been so gross and humid for almost this whole summer and hiking is one of the last things I want to do in that kind of weather. Not to mention all the mosquitoes and other bugs that are out during this time of year. Ick!
The other day, it wasn't really muggy out (just kind of hot) so Chris and I went for a hike. While hiking, we did a little bit of geocaching. If you don't know what that is, it's sort of like a global treasure hunt! People all over the country and world hide what are called caches, which usually just consists of a small waterproof container with a pencil and a list of names of the people who have found it. I've read that sometimes people leave little cheap toys or trinkets that you can trade out for something you've brought.

Anyway...we didn't find any of the ones that are supposedly hidden there. I've only ever found one, and it was actually by accident! I had just been walking down a trail about a year ago, and I spotted a little blue container hidden in a hole in a tree. I instantly knew what it was and got really excited. Sure enough, I opened it and there was a list of people who had found it. It was pretty long, too! I added my name to the list and put it back where I had found it. I wonder how many more people have found it since. That's what I love about the whole idea...it's a way for people to connect with one another, for people to leave their "mark". You get to leave a little piece of yourself to share with others. It's so awesome! And who doesn't love scavenger hunts?!
I've been a fan of mixing brown and black for a while now, and rarely ever do it. I like it because it seems like a weird combination, but then it actually looks pretty neat. Plus, I just love brown! I love me some earth tones. :)
Well...today is officially September and it's time to start saying goodbye to summer! My town's fall festival is next weekend, which always kind of symbolized that fall is beginning, even though it may still be in the 70s and 80s. Of course it was a lot more fun when I was in high school, but hey...there's still fried dough to eat, and that will never get old.
