Poncho Days

You know those dreary, chilly, rainy, lazy days when you just feel like staying inside and doing indoorsy things? That's what my Wednesday was like. I did manage to get out to take a few outfit pictures, though.

When I have days like this, sometimes I don't even feel like dressing up, much. This is when I usually pull out my trusty sweater poncho. It's comfy, hooded (in case it rains), and pretty warm, too! It's like the more stylish version of a hoodie. I love that it's loose and baggy in a good way.

I'm really loving this jacket, although I've found it's not that warm on really cool days. I still felt chilly! I'm almost always cold, though. I swear I must be anemic or something.

Since I felt like being inside, I decided to bake a couple of things for the Halloween party I'm going to tonight. I baked apple cookies and more pumpkin poppers. I had a 50% off coupon for Michael's, so I went and got a mini muffin pan. I used that pan this time and made the pumpkin poppers the size they're supposed to be. They are so cute!

I also practiced doing my makeup for my Halloween costume. This is how my practice run turned out! I didn't have mascara on me, so I went sans that. I was excited about my little leopard spots! I'll have to get pictures of the actual final result, mascara and all!

I hope you all have a fun pre-Halloween weekend! I have one party down this weekend, and one to go! We're supposed to possibly get hit with Hurricane Sandy next week. :\ I'm hoping it just doesn't. We keep getting strange weather for Halloween. Last year we had October. This year we may have a hurricane. So crazy!

Autumn To-Do List Update

You're probably so sick of me talking about autumn, but I thought I'd give an update on my to-do list for the season. I have been kicking its butt, lately! I went apple picking and pumpkin picking in the same week. I baked three different autumn treats in one day (more recipes to come soon!). I've only tried one autumn-inspired cocktail, thanks to my cousin, but I plan to try another this weekend. I've only worn flannel once, so I didn't think I should check it off. I think the truth is that I don't have a large variety of flannel things to choose from. Does gingham count as flannel?

Chris and I are planning to go on a foliage trip this weekend. It's supposed to be cloudy, so I'm praying for it to end up bright and sunny. Maybe we'll even go for a hike during our adventures!

These pictures are from a failed attempt at an outfit photoshoot of the dress I wore for my birthday. There were only a couple of good pictures because the lighting was so horrible. I really shouldn't have even attempted pictures that day. At least you can see the detail on the front of the dress now.

I have some more seasonal photoshoots planned, in addition to the cemetery one I already did. Oh, and I'm going to two Halloween parties this weekend, and one next weekend. I think I may be able to pull off this entire list! What an awesome autumn it'll be. :)

Quick Pics

October is going by way too quickly. I can't believe it'll be over in 10 days! I'm excited for Halloween and all the costume parties that comes with it. Costume parties are the best kind of parties. I'm going to be doing my eye make-up with leopard print to go with my costume. I'm hoping it comes out alright. I don't have much experience with that kind of make-up.

Here are some random Instagram pictures from this past month.  It's been a pretty fun month, despite there being more rainy days than I'd like to have. Chris and I usually cook a meal together every Wednesday night, but lately he's been having to work through dinner time and we haven't been able to have it. I think this delicious pizza might've been the last time we were able to cook together. It was super easy to make...and super tasty.

[I have had Hocus Pocus in my purse for pretty much this entire month, ready to go whenever the time is right...which is always.]
I am having anxiety over the foliage. I keep checking the reports for the area, and I think that this is the week that I would need to go on a foliage drive if I'm going to do it. Most of the state is covered in high color, with one small section currently at peak. I may have to go alone this Wednesday because Chris works and no one else I know really has weekdays off. I don't want to miss out on the awesome leafy goodness!

I have been to three weddings in the past month, with the last one being yesterday. For some reason, fall was the season to get married this year. I'm no complaining because I hadn't been to a wedding since I was about 14, and I've been waiting for some to happen. The first wedding was my brother's that I was in. The second wedding I went to there was a carousel at the reception and we all got to ride it! It was lots of fun! I should really do a post on all of these weddings.

My parents and I went pumpkin picking today! We picked a big one, and I picked out these two little baby ones. I am considering spraying one of them with chalkboard paint and drawing on it with chalk. I saw it on Pinterest and thought it was cute. Of course, we also picked up some apple cider. They had pumpkin donuts for sale, so I had to get those too. How could I pass those up?

This week, I am getting psyched for the upcoming Halloween weekend! There are two parties this weekend and I'm hoping to squeeze in some fun day trips too, so I'm going to be pretty busy! I don't have any plans for actual Halloween yet, but I have the day off. I'll probably just wear my costume all day wherever I go. I sort of wish I wasn't too old to go trick-or-treating. I miss it!

23rd Birthday Celebrations

You're about to get punched in the face with pictures. I apologize in advance. But I just have to share all the aspects of the awesomely autumny birthday that I had! On Wednesday, I turned 23 and it just so happened that I had the day off from work. When I thought about what I wanted to do on my birthday day off, I decided I definitely wanted to go to the orchard and go apple picking. Oh the loveliness of having a birthday in autumn. :)

In addition to going to the orchard, I was given a few surprise treats as well! My cousin made a delicious hot apple cider cocktail especially for me! And before we went to the orchard, Chris surprised me with this awesome Reese's cake decorated with the Jurassic Park symbol. To top it off, he played the Jurassic Park theme on trumpet as I walked in. Yes, he's pretty amazing. :)

After having some cake, we took off with a couple of friends to go to the orchard. It was one of the most gorgeous autumn days we've had this whole season. Not too chilly and nice and sunny! Of course, before picking apples, I had to stop and look at the pumpkins. Pumpkins make me so happy. They're just so bright and cute and wonderful. I love the classic orange ones, but I also like the white ones! The foliage was really pretty up there, too. The trees are probably midway to peak and possibly almost at peak in the upper regions of the state. I hope to go see some of the foliage up that way next week.

I really couldn't wait to share this Dear Creatures dress with you all, and now here it is! I love it. It's the perfect shade of burnt orange and it's so comfy! When I got it, I think I knew that I wanted to wear it on my birthday. It's so perfectly autumny and probably one of my favorite pieces to wear now.

I didn't take any pumpkins home with me, but I did take a bunch of pictures! haha. My family and I are going pumpkin picking this weekend. We usually carve it into a Jack o' Lantern, but I've seen so many neat ideas for decorating pumpkins on Pinterest that I just might try something new this year.

After the pumpkins came the apples! Apparently the apples were a little ahead of schedule for the season, so there weren't as many varieties to pick, but I still managed to pick seven pounds worth of apples. I picked Jonagold, Ida Red, Empire, and Golden Delicious. I tasted them all as we picked. Apples are always the best right off the tree. :)

I'll definitely have to try and put these apples to good use! I still have a recipe and ingredients for these apple pie eggrolls that I was going to make a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I'll make those next week. I'm sure it won't use up all the seven pounds I have, but it's a start! Chris keeps begging me to make my apple cookies... :)

I thought it'd be funny if the guys climbed on each others' shoulders and tried to pick an apple that was high up in the tree. Of course, they went for it and they did succeed, although the apple they picked was kind of deformed looking.

I can't ever leave the orchard without visiting the market. There's too many yummy things to drool over! I don't know why, but I was feeling pretty simple and just wanted a Halloween sugar cookie. I always get won over by things that are holiday-themed...especially Halloween! They had pumpkins and witches, but there was only one pumpkin left. By the time I made up my mind that it was what I wanted and got in line, it was gone and I had to go with the witch. Oh well. The witch was cool anyway because it was purple and orange. I also had some of my friend's pumpkin cupcake. I thought it was going to be an actual pumpkin cake, but I think it was just a white cake decorated like a pumpkin.

After we ate our treats, we left and went home. My mom cooked one of my favorite dinners for me - oven roast, mashed potatoes, and stuffed artichokes. Her stuffed artichokes are so amazing. I could eat about four of them every day for the rest of my life if it were possible. For my birthday cake, I requested spice cake. My mom ordered it from a local bakery, and it was so delicious. I've gotten ice cream cake every year probably ever since I was a kid, but this year I thought I'd change it up. Spice cake is one of my favorites and I never ever get to have it. Plus, it definitely fits with the autumn theme!

It was such an awesome birthday and I'm grateful that I have wonderful people to make it special for me and share it with. I got to go apple picking, eat Jurassic Park cake, drink cider, have an awesome dinner, eat cookies, eat spice cake, and look at pumpkins and foliage. What better way is there to spend a birthday in October? :)

Renaissance Faire

Good day! This past weekend, I went to a Renaissance faire with Chris and my friend Nadia. It was really neat. We got to eat giant turkey legs, watch jousting, and do archery! They also had spear, dagger, and hatchet throwing as well, but we didn't get around to doing it. I'm just happy with my giant turkey leg. It's one of my favorite things to eat. I just like being able to hold it with my hand and bite at it. Something about the barbaric nature of it is appealing to

Chris brought his ukulele to play Greensleeves while we wandered around. We eventually came across this man dressed up as a dragon who gave me and Nadia these beaded necklaces and told us that we were now princesses of the Faire. He also told Chris that he needed to buy us "shinies" now (meaning jewlery)...haha. It's really awesome how into it everyone is who works there, volunteers there, and attends. It was such a fun atmosphere and community!

For the occasion, I thought I'd wear this peasant dress that I won on eBay about 4 or 5 years ago. I rarely wear it now, so it felt good to let it see the light of day. It definitely didn't help to keep me warm, though. It got so cold as the day progressed! It wasn't very warm out and the wind kept blowing, so I had to wear my coat a lot of the time. I don't know if that's why, but I ended up getting sick that night and am still feeling a little under the weather with some sort of throat virus. :\ But I'm on antibiotics, so I should be feeling a lot better soon.

There was this comedy troupe that performed a spoof of Hamlet that was really hilarious. It was sort of like the comedy style of Monty Python or Mel Brooks. It made me really miss being in drama club in high school. Acting is so much fun! We watched a jousting show, which was definitely more toned down than actual jousting, and Chris met the king. He was very jovial and silly, as were many of the people there.

I wish I had gotten more pictures, but I was so cold that I didn't even want to hold my camera. My fingers and nose were numb! I was also just so distracted in general by looking at everything and taking everything in. Sometimes I just completely forgot that I should be taking pictures! At least I still got a few good ones. :)
