Quick Pics (Mostly-Boston Edition)

As the shortest month, February always flies by! The month started off with a snowstorm and a trip to Boston for Ashley's birthday! We went to the Museum of Science and had an AMAZING time. There were so many cool things to see and do. We saw a planetarium show, which pretty much put everyone in awe of our whole universe and existence. We froze our shadows, saw a dinosaur wearing a scarf, played with mirrors, sat in a giant chair, and I got to lay on a bed of nails. I didn't take my camera since it was snowy and gross out, so I just used my phone to document our journey.

We ate cannoli at the best cannoli place - Mike's Pastry. The original is really good. I tried the peanut butter for the first time, but it wasn't as good. The Oreo one that Chris got was amazing. Next time I go, I'm getting that one and the original. We had dinner at one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. It's called Border Cafe. The food was amazing, there's endless, freshly made tortilla chips and salsa, and it's so inexpensively priced! I got the ground beef enchiladas, which came with jambalaya and it was all great!

We stopped at Newbury Comics where Chris got me these awesome library card socks by Out of Print, which I had seen online a bunch of times. A perfect gift for a librarian! :)

For Valentine's Day, Chris and I went to brunch the Sunday after for our Valentine's date. We stuffed our faces and loved every minute of it....except for afterwards when we were too full. I also cross-stitched Bulbasaur for him as one of his presents!

My Colourpop Lippie Stix arrived a couple of weeks ago! I tried them all on and they're great. I can't wait to wear them in some of my posts. I thought I ordered a coral color, but I must've decided against it when I went to checkout because I definitely didn't order it. Disappoint. All the colors I got aren't necessarily right for everyday wear, especially at I just can't wear black or purple lipstick to the library.

After a bunch of snowstorms, there's nothing but piles of snow everywhere, making it annoying to drive and hard to find places to take pictures. Luckily, Chris and I escaped the winter by going to a park that had a greenhouse. It was like stepping into spring! It was warm enough to be sleeveless and full of plants and flowers and it made me so happy. We did a shoot in there where I wore a dress from Azazie. Stay tuned for a post on that. ;)

And of course, as always, there's more fun with Clementine...

And now I'm off to Florida!! YAY! I've been waiting so long for this. I can't wait to see the new part of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and to pick fresh oranges in the citrus orchard again. Warmth and sunshine, here I come! (Clementine wants to come too)...

Tips for Traveling By Plane

I haven't flown to many different places, but I've flown many times. My parents have a timeshare in Florida, so we have been going there every year since I was about 2 years old. After many years of having an annual flight, you get pretty good at maneuvering the airport, packing, and dealing with flying in general.

Plan Your Outfits

Being a fashion blogger and loving clothes means that I tend to overpack and like to have a variety of things to choose from. The over-thinker and planner in me also thinks of all the scenarios that I need to be prepared for. What if I spill something on myself? What if I'm having a fat day? What if I'm going to do something athletic? ....See what I mean? I like to think I've gotten better at not overpacking now. I still pack more outfits than I need, but now I try to use the same pieces to create different outfits. For instance, I will have two pairs of shorts, but 4 different tops that I could wear with them instead of having 8 pairs of shorts and 8 tops.

Make A List

While I'm planning ahead, I make an Excel sheet with all the things I'm going to pack. I categorize by item type and then when I'm packing, I check things off as I put them in my suitcase. This is why I like to use Excel because I can have a little column for checkmarks. I even have things like accessories, electronics, and toiletries listed. This allows you to see just how much you're bringing all laid out on a sheet and also allows you to make sure you don't forget anything! Also, this allows you to know exactly what's in your suitcase in case anything somehow goes missing. (Can you tell I'm somewhat of a pessimist?)

Prepare To Entertain Yourself

Plane rides are boring. Every now and then, it's exciting to look down and see little towns under you and how everything looks like toys. For the most part, it's boring and you need to be prepared for this. Plane rides are a great time to get work done or to read a really great book. I find them to be a very productive time. Too bad they only happen once a year for me. Is it weird that I think I'd be a more productive person if I flew more? Some airlines have TVs with a bunch of channels or a movie or a ton of radio stations to listen to, or all of the above. Some planes don't. Always come prepared. I always take my laptop on board with me. Because I don't want to pay for WiFi, it's a good time to work on editing pictures or writing papers because I can't get distracted by the Internet or my phone. I also always bring my iPod and some books to read. Sometimes I'll bring a magazine if the mood strikes me. Usually, laptop, books, and music are all I need.

[My phone is in place of my iPod as I was too lazy to go out to my car and get it.]

Dressing For Your Flight

There are two things I consider when picking an outfit for my flight: getting through security and my destination. You're probably going to have to take your shoes off, so wear ones that come off easily. I usually wear boots that zip since I'm usually traveling in the winter. I'm also usually going to Florida, so I like to dress in layers that can easily come off once I get to the warmth and that will keep me warm when I return to the deep freeze that is New England. I also like to wear jeans and a sweater that will come in handy on cool nights during my trip. I choose a color that goes with a lot. That way, it's less stuff I have to pack.

Carry On

Usually, you are allowed one bag and one personal item as a carry on. For me, this usually means a purse and my laptop (in its bag). In the laptop bag, I put my reading materials. In my purse, I put my camera. This assures that I can have all of my electronics and valuables with my person during the flight. Since you can only bring on two things, maximize your space! Skip bringing snacks and drinks, unless you're really a health nut or have serious food allergies. Airlines usually provide a pretty decent complimentary snack pack and drink, so your snacks will just take up space. You can always eat something before you board or after you land at the airport if you're desperate for more food.

Other tips:

  • You should generally arrive at the airport two hours before your flight leaves
  • When packing, keep in mind that it's likely you will come back with more than you brought. Be sure to allow room in your luggage for souvenirs!
  • Bring gum if the ear-popping bothers you, or just blast your music through your headphones really loud
  • Go to the bathroom right before boarding. Avoiding that tiny, bumpy airplane bathroom is always nice.
  • If you have a generic looking suitcase, mark it with something noticeable or colorful. Tie some ribbon around the handle or get creative with Duck Tape. It'll help you find it much faster at baggage claim.
  • Remove as much clothing and jewelry beforehand as you can before you have to go through security. Don't be that guy that holds up the line.
  • Enjoy your "me-time" and don't forget to peek out the window every now and then! :)

February Wishlist

I didn't mean to have this wishlist be so pink and girly and Valentine's-themed, but it kind of turned out that way. I love dusty and rosy pinks for the spring and as always, I am always looking towards spring way ahead of time because winter is just so boring.

Sarah recently introduced me to this brand of makeup called Colourpop. They have SO MANY colors to choose from and they are only $5 each, and they are great! I tried on one of the ones she has. Their colors are similar to LimeCrime, but more affordable. I ordered 5 of them (you get a $5 off coupon for signing up for their newsletter) and I can't wait for them to arrive! I got Pitch (brown), Fancy (coral), Wet (gunmetal!), Leather (purple), and Bull Chic (black). I'm very excited and curious about Wet because it's a gunmetal color. Seems very interesting and different! I want to try more colors too, but mostly more purples. That purple I ordered is a deeper one and I'd like some lighter and brighter ones as well.

I'm all about jumpsuits, lately. I find it's hard for me to find one that fits right. It has to fit right in the torso and not be too short or too bunchy. It also has to fit me in the legs since I usually wear pants in a shorter length and not be too long. I found one from ModCloth that I really like, but haven't gotten the chance to wear yet. I think it's still a little too cold for it. The one from Forever 21 seems like it would have a good and structured fit. I'd like some more rompers too, but I have the same issues with fit with those too except for the leg length, obviously.

I'd really love a pretty pair of dusty pink heels, and these ones I found on ModCloth look like a good fit. I also am loving the leaf necklace from Ruche. I love jewelry with decorative leaves, especially for spring and fall and I think these are so pretty with the jewels on them.

I saw the Betsey Johnson dress in Nordstrom and instantly loved it. I didn't try it on since the mall was closing and we were on our way out, but I really wanted it. It's a shame that things are so expensive nowadays. :\ I feel the same about the Pinup Girl Clothing dress. It's so, so pretty and I instantly fell in love with it, but I can't really be shelling out $200+ for a dress. It's just not practical for me.

One more thing....the red and white polka dot Lindy Bop dress reminds me of Minnie Mouse and also general retro/pinup fashion so it's a win/win. I love classic pairings like this, and I love polka dots! I can't wait for spring so that I can wear all these lovely things without covering up with layers and coats and being freezing (still).

Ready for Spring

Can you tell by this outfit that I'm ready for spring? It seems that every week begins with a snowstorm now! We had one every week for the past 3 or 4 weeks now. It's kind of getting ridiculous. I can't wait to escape it all for a week when I go to Florida!

When SheInside contacted me about working with them, I was very excited! I am always finding a bunch of cute things on their website that I love. I am in need of more bottoms, so I chose some of those to showcase here. I love prints and I also love solid pieces that can be worn with many things and they have a good mix of both to choose from! They are also extremely affordably priced. :)

I chose this blue dress from them because it is very practical and versatile. It's a good thickness for spring and even for winter, and I love that it has some sleeves on it. The fact that it's solid and blue lends itself nicely to both remixing and accessorizing. It's also very comfy and has a lovely shape!

I decided to break out the kitty tights for this outfit. It's been a while since I wore them, and they're always nice to wear with a solid piece to give it a little charm. I also decided to wear the flower crown because I needed something to hold me over until spring. I don't know how much more snow I can take. We're getting more on Thursday and more on Saturday. WHEN WILL WE GET A BREAK?!

At least February is a short month. It also has a lot of random holidays that I get off like Lincoln's Birthday and President's Day. I like when I get some afternoons off to get things done that I might not otherwise get to. It's very refreshing and relieving. I have a lot of homework to catch up on, which is stressing me out. :\

I'm REALLY excited for mine and Chris's five year anniversary coming up next month. :D March is usually a good month. Spring is usually right around the corner by then, especially near our anniversary since it's towards the middle/end of the month. Not surprisingly, it always reminds me of falling in love. I still think back to our first date and smile at how perfect it was. :) Of course there is nothing like being with someone for so long and knowing that they are just right for you, but there is also nothing like those first months when you are so unbelievably and stupidly giddy. I feel that Chris and I had a romantic beginning full of train rides, surprise visits, weeks spent waiting to see each other, and then entire weekends spent doing literally everything and anything because we only had two days to be together. But more on that in a later post... ;)
