Pineapples Scream Summer

To me, pineapples just scream summer. Fresh pineapple cut into chunks, drinks with pineapple juice, cups made out of hollowed out pineapples, and of course, pineapple prints! I love a good fruit print, and I love how neat pineapples look. It's also a fruit that I love to eat...and the one that Spongebob lives in. It still blows my mind that Spongebob has been on for over half my life, now. Since I was in 6th grade. Crazy.

When I saw this pineapple print dress on ModCloth, I instantly loved it. Not just the fact that it had pineapples on it, but also the color. Very summery, very bright and fun. It fits great (only a little tight in the bust, but I'm used to that), and it's comfortable too! I am also in love with these sunglasses from ASOS. They have such an amazing selection of sunglasses, and they are decently priced!

I just recently got back into reading a lot. I always loved to read, but being in grad school and working had left me unable to find time to read for pleasure. Once I graduated, I slowly got more heavily into reading again. Now I have been going book after book for the past month or so. I got back into using Goodreads, too. I have a list of books to read and it is constantly getting longer. It's hard not to keep adding to it when I work at a library and am surrounded by books and people talking about them all the time.

These photos were taken at my favorite book store. Every time I go there, I always consult my big long list of books that I'd like to get, but you never know what you'll find since it's a used book store. I ended up only finding one book that was on my list. Goodreads definitely made it easier for me too, to keep track of things since you can separate books into different lists.

I am just finished reading All The Light We Cannot See. It was really good. It is a New York Times Bestseller, and there's a pretty long wait list for it through the libraries, but I finally got a copy of it. It is long, but the chapters are short and it ends up being a pretty fast read. It took me about a week and a half to finish. The story is great, and so is the writing. It is a spectacular mixture of history, myth, science, and suspense. I love that there are so many stories intertwining. I definitely see what all the hype is about.

I recently finished the Delirium trilogy by Lauren Oliver. I had read Delirium for my young adult lit class when I was doing my grad program and I just recently got around to reading the other two books, plus the book of short stories about a few of the characters. It was very good. Delirium was pretty great, but then the others just kept getting better. I actually e-mailed Lauren Oliver and told her how much I enjoyed it and she eventually e-mailed back saying she loves to hear from fans, especially teachers and librarians, who get her books into the hands of the kids. It could've totally been someone other than her answering her e-mails for her, but I like to think that she answers them I am hoping to read 40 books by the end of the year. I have 9 down, and 31 to go!

Block Island

A couple of weekends ago, Ashley and I took a day trip to Block Island. I had never been there and was always curious, so I was excited to finally go! It was such a nice day out, but then shortly after we got to the island it started to rain and it was very windy and chilly. Luckily, that passed and it was nice again towards the afternoon/evening.

The ferry ride was nice. I was able to sit and read my book for most of the ride, which was very relaxing. It doesn't take too long to get to the island and we took the earliest ferry so we would get there at a good time in mid-morning. We had some breakfast at a place called Ernie's. The food was pretty good, but I wasn't too thrilled with the service, or the fact that they have a surcharge for each egg they serve you because "the price of eggs has gone up". I'm not sure why they don't just raise the price of all the meals with eggs. After we ate, we went in some of the shops in the area.

We wanted to go to the Mohegan Bluffs and I especially wanted to see one of the lighthouses on the island, so once we were done at the shops, we headed towards the south end of the island. Along the way, we stopped at a petting zoo where they had geese, goats, a turtle, and other animals, then continued on to the lighthouse.

The bluffs had a great view. There are stairs that go down the cliff and lead to the beach. We went down them and then sat on a big rock on the beach for a while. By this time, it was nice out again so we were able to enjoy it.

Once we were done on the beach, we ended up getting some dinner at a Mexican restaurant. After that we just walked around and shopped some more. I ended up getting a fleece jacket because I was so cold by the time the sun went down. I'm glad I got it, too, because the ferry was super cold on the way home. We had a great day, and I'm glad that we didn't get entirely rained out! :)

August Wishlist

As it seems is per usual for me, I am pretty much over summer and cannot wait for autumn. I am not into the almost 90-degree heat, the humidity, the boringness of summer outfits, the sweating, the constant need for A/C. Don't get me wrong. I love nice, summer days and warm weather, but when it's always too hot and humid it gets to be a little much. I am a fan of 65-75 degree days. When the winters last forever and the spring takes forever to get here, I welcome the beginning of summer with open arms, but by the time August rolls around, I'm usually done with it. The countdown to October has begun, people.

You will notice that my wishlist this month is very fall-focused, and even a little Halloween-focused (skeleton tights and Hocus Pocus t-shirt, anyone? That t-shirt needs to be in my life). I am so ready for boots, deeper, richer colors, and layers. I especially can't wait to dye my hair darker again and then have some fun with colorful lipsticks. Right now, I've got my eye on a deep green shade from Colourpop, as well as one of their newest additions - a blue liquid matte lipstick. I really just want to collect all of the Colourpop lipsticks.

I have been gravitating more to the grungy/gothy/edgy look lately when I shop. I keep wanting to get a pair of Doc Martens, but they're so expensive and I feel like they'd look awkward on me, but I really like the white and black ones that ModCloth is carrying. I have also been wanting that dinosaur dress that they have for years now, I believe. I also LOVE the blue boots I found on there too.

Atlantic City

A few weekends ago, I had a mini vacation in the form of a weekend getaway to Atlantic City. There was 4 of us that went, which was nice because you can fit 4 in a hotel room no problem and it makes the room cheaper for everyone. It's also just easier to plan a trip when you don't have a big group of people.

I had never been to Atlantic City, but have been wanting to go for a couple of years now. You all know how I feel about beachy towns and seaside things. Of course Atlantic City has been on my to-do list.

We stayed in a hotel that was only a block away from the boardwalk, so it wasn't super expensive, but it wasn't too far from everything. We stuck to the boardwalk, beach, and casinos the whole weekend and that was definitely plenty to do.

We went to a bunch of the casinos including the Tropicana, Bally's, and Caesars. I liked the Tropicana the best. They had a nightclub that was 70s and 80s themed, which was pretty fun. They had a light-up disco floor and a disco ball. There was also a man dressed up with a disco ball as a head at one point. Chris and I tried to get into the other dance club that plays current music, but we got kicked out of line because their dress code required no shorts. I was very annoyed.

There was this bar/club right on the beach that was really cool. They had hammocks and beds and a dance floor. I swear, this place was a 24/7 non-stop party. I don't think there was a time that we were there that this place wasn't open. In actuality, they probably closed at 4 AM. A lot of places advertised that they were open until then.

We stayed over the Saturday night, so we spent the day on Sunday enjoying the beach, eating breakfast at a diner on the boardwalk, and just going into shops and whatnot. It was nice to get away, but it's always sad when you have to go home and go back to reality!
