Sleepy Hollow

Happy Halloween! Nadia and I went to Sleepy Hollow last weekend to do some exploring. Neither of us had ever been there and it has a spooky connection to it with the Headless Horseman and all, so it seemed appropriate to visit in October.













There's not much there that we could see. There's a huge cemetery and one of the churches was actually having a festival right at one of the corners of the cemetery so people were literally drinking cider and eating food with the graves of the dead beneath their feet. It was strange and cool all at once.













We visited the bridge that was near the cemetery. It was scary to stand on because cars can drive over it and it feels like the bridge is going to collapse when they do. I think this is the bridge that the Headless Horseman rode over, but the location of it was moved. I'm not sure, though.













We wandered through the cemetery. This was like the 5 star hotels of cemeteries. There are people buried here that have cottage-sized tombs and other giant monuments dedicated to them. It's really interesting to see all the different art and architecture of it all. A lot of it was actually very pretty once you look past the morbidity of it all. It's all pretty impressive.















There was a sculpture of the Headless Horseman and Ichabod Crane near the cemetery as well. Other than that, it seemed like a normal small New England town.













Since I love anything Halloween, I got excited when I saw this dress with it's awesome Halloween print. I also love that the cut is a very retro-type style. It's really comfortable and it's by Hell Bunny, which always makes very awesome dresses. I actually ordered it from a website called Tiger Milly because I had found a coupon code. They are based in the UK and have a lot of awesome vintage and retro-inspired clothing. I accessorized with a Hocus Pocus book pin from an Etsy shop called Tees and Tank You and skeleton arm earrings that I got in Salem. They are hypoallergenic so they don't irritate my ears!













In other news, I had a very Halloweeny weekend. I dressed up as Snow White and went to a party on Friday night, then went to NYC for a party on Saturday night. We actually had a pretty bad experience with the party we chose to go to. The venue, staff, and DJ were all terrible. We ended up leaving after about an hour and stumbled upon an awesome 3-floor bar that was having a party with no cover charge or anything. They had a rooftop bar as well. The staff was awesome and danced with everyone and were dressed up. It was a lot of fun! I'm glad that we ended up finding it.













My costume for this year isn't very work appropriate since it's short and shows a lot of cleavage, but I do have a full length traditional Snow White costume. I decided for work that I would wear that, but add some punk/goth accessories and be punk Snow White. I wore black lipstick as well.













October is over, which is depressing. Since there's not much preparation for Thanksgiving for me other than making a side dish, I will now start planning for Christmas. I've already started thinking of some things to get people. I definitely have some people that are harder to buy for than others. My parents are kind of hard to buy for, especially my dad. It's always a challenge coming up with gift ideas for him. Any thoughts/suggestions are definitely welcome.

It's crazy that Christmas is less than two months away. It always sneaks up on me because I am always so focused on October and my birthday and Halloween. I go nonstop the whole month and then when it's over I'm faced with the fact that winter is coming and Christmas is almost here. Time to start thinking about Christmas outfits, gift ideas, and cookie making!
