Bunkers & Shabby Piers

I can't remember which storm it was, but it was either Irene or Sandy that totally demolished the pier at this park. I remember the whole beach looked different and there were pieces of wood and random things strewn about. I'm not sure if they fixed it up a little since then, or if they're just leaving it dilapidated. Either way, it's kinda cool looking.

The park also used to be a military fort and there are still bunkers there from the late 1800s! The grass has grown on hills over the bunkers and you can just sit up there and take in the view of the water. The grassy areas around the bunkers make for a nice picnicking spot too...or just a spot to bring your favorite board game and play for a while.

Katie of Beautifully Pure sent me this necklace as a gift, and once I received it I couldn't wait to style it!  I was very pleasantly surprised. :) Of course I had to style it with a somewhat nautical/beachy outfit and take pictures by the water. How else would you do a photoshoot with an anchor necklace?

I've been spending a lot of time outdoors lately as the temperatures have skyrocketed to the 70s and 80s...and even 90s. This past week and this coming week are brutal, though. We've had nothing but thunderstorm warnings, which means constant humidity and disgustingness, plus random bouts of pouring rain with no warning whatsoever. It makes it hard to plan for doing anything outside. I really want to go cherry picking tomorrow, but the weather could completely mess it up for me. Oh, New England. You just sort of do what you want weather-wise, don't you?

Maybe that's why it just doesn't feel like the 4th of July is two days from now. Consistent grey days and lack of sunshine doesn't make for a feeling of summer holiday fun. Plus, I'm pretty sure there's nothing planned for the 4th, so I have no idea if I'll actually be celebrating it or not. I did catch my town's fireworks the other night, though. That counts, right?

I feel like July will be a much less hectic month for me. I don't have too much planned, so I'll have more down time to just relax. No weddings, no showers, no birthdays. I'm ready to spend time lazing around outside or by a pool while reading a good book and drinking tea. It's the simple pleasures...
