Autumnal Floral

I had quite the weekend! My birthday party on Friday night went very well and I had a lot of fun. The cake that Sarah made was amazing and I got some cute presents, too! Cookie cutters, an Adventure Time t-shirt, a new book, and an apple mug and chai tea. Pretty nice birthday swag! :)

Saturday I did a pinup shoot with a photographer friend of mine. She invited some of her friends, one of which is another photographer so he did some shots of everyone as well. It was fun to meet more people who were so open and enthusiastic about doing this kind of stuff, and so nice too! All of the girls looked great. I can't wait to see the final edits of the pictures! I'll be sure to share some when they're ready.

Sunday I went to my nephew's birthday party, and then to my cousin's apartment for a scary movie night. We ended up watching Carrie and Scream. Now...I need to take a minute and talk about Carrie. First of all, let me preface by saying how I believe that the 70's was the best decade for horror movies. I've always been a fan of Halloween and watch it every season, though I'll never watch it when I'm alone in the house...haha. Anyway, this was my first time watching Carrie. I really loved the character of Carrie. She was sweet, adorable, and although she was shy, she still stood up for herself against her mother. And when she was finally at the prom, she seemed to be so happy and having such a wonderful time and even though I knew what was coming, I really really REALLY hoped that it just wouldn't happen. I felt so bad for her, and I was rooting for her the whole time. It's weird how emotional I got over this movie.

What bothered me the most, though, was some of the unjustified deaths that resulted from the pig's blood incident. *SPOILER ALERT*...I was so upset when the gym teacher died. I mean, come ooooon. She was the mother Carrie never had. And that poor girl who was trying to do Carrie a favor by getting her a date to the prom...she's tortured with nightmares. It just wasn't fair. And Carrie herself also did not deserve to die in the end. I found myself thinking about the movie all night, and even the day after. It's a pretty simple story, yet really good. It wasn't this really twisted psychological mess-with-your-head-so-much-that-you-can't-understand-it type of movie. It was much more subtle than that, and I enjoyed it. It's like they didn't have to try too hard.

These photos were taken at an apple orchard where I didn't really pick apples, I just ate one because I was hungry for a snack and well, they were there. I'm going to have to actually pick a bunch of apples now that the orchards have better varieties. You know...I don't think I've ever actually made an apple pie. It's my favorite pie, but I've just never really been a pie-maker. It's the crust. For some reason, it's off-putting to me, especially to try to make my own. Lately I've been craving pie, though, and have become more interested in making some. Perhaps this could be the year that I finally attempt to make an apple pie! We shall see.

It might seem a bit heretical but if you're letting your fear of making your own crust keep you from the joy that can be had from pie making, go ahead and buy the stuff from the market, right beside the refrigerated rolls. If you follow the instructions, it's very forgiving and tasty enough.

    Love your outfit!

  4. The corn plants look so pretty in the sun. Actually I mostly associate corn fields with horror films though. I don't know what it is, the halloween food and how tall they are, but I get freaked out in corn fields in case something is hiding there! I'm weird like that. lol. Also I love those shoes. I've been hunting for a pair like that at the moment.

  6. I haven't seen Carrie in such a long time! Maybe I'll catch it on TV before Halloween. I hope so. Now I really want to watch it again!

Also I love how you styled this floral dress for fall. Floral in the fall is great. Your outfit looks so cute against the corn field background. I love the pictures of the corn against the bright blue sky too.

  7. I've never been one for Horror movies, but my sister who is forces me to watch them every now and then. This one is actually on her list to see next. Maybe after reading your post I'll be able to watch it without being too frightened. Maybe. Your outfit is lovely too by the way, I love this floral dress styled for fall. Awesome boots too!
