The Dead of Winter

Considering how much I love orchards, I don't think I've ever really taken pictures or visited one in the winter. Obviously, people don't usually do that since everything is dead and nothing is on the trees to pick. I think the dead trees look kinda cool, though. I'm glad I thought to take some pictures here this season. It makes for an interesting landscape. And now I've had photos in an orchard for every season!

This outfit feels very autumn meets winter to me. I think forest green is a very autumny and wintery color, so maybe that's why. The hat just makes me think of autumn for some reason, too. I rarely wear this hat because sometimes I feel awkward in it, but I was feeling good about it this day. I felt like Carmen Sandiego because I wore my maroon coat with it...haha. With the sunglasses added, I felt very incognito.

I swear it must've snowed about 12 times now this season. Sometimes we get it two times a week! This is by far the snowiest winter that I can remember. I'm getting tired of having to shovel and clean off my car. I can feel everyone else's exhaustion and annoyance with it too through other bloggers' posts and my friends on Facebook. This winter is just lame. It's like we never catch a break!

Anyway...so I have a thing for novelty mugs. I can't stop buying them whenever I see one that interests me. I collect them, and I must have about 20 mugs by now. They range in themes and prints. I have polka dot, Florida, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, floral, Mickey Mouse, apple-shaped, etc. I also can't resist a mug that says anything about tea on it because they are usually pretty hard to come across. Everything is always about coffee, even though I'm pretty sure that tea is the most consumed beverage in the world after water. I love my mug collection, and I can't wait to display them somehow when I have my own place. I'll have to photograph them one day and do a post about it.

I guess mugs are really all I collect, unless you count dresses and books. I guess I might collect giraffe-themed things, but I don't really have enough things to call it a collection. Just a couple of shirts, a necklace, a mug, and some stuffed animals. Giraffe-themed things are another thing that you don't really find often. Owls, foxes, cats, leopard, and zebra are all over the place, but rarely giraffes! Do you guys collect anything?

I feel that around this time is when people start thinking about music festivals. I know I have. Unfortunately, they are all either way too expensive, too far away, the lineup isn't worth it to me, or a combination of all of the above. All of the big major festivals are nowhere near me. Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza...they are all inconveniently miles and miles away. And let's face it...Warped Tour has definitely gone downhill. Looking at the lineup makes me feel old because I have no idea who most of those bands are. Maybe one day I'll make the trip to one of the big festivals if there are bands that I'd really like to see. Maybe it's just that I've seen pretty much all of the bands that I've wanted to see live so now I don't really feel as compelled to shell out $100-$200 dollars for them. I'd prefer to stick with smaller shows that are only $20 or so. This hat kind of reminds me of festival season, in a way. Floppy hats are great for keeping the sun out of your face, although they have potential to end up lost at a show.

In the dead of winter, it's hard not to think ahead to the spring and summer and dream about all the fun things you'll do once it's warm out. I can't stop thinking about picnics, flower gardens, and day trips to places when everything doesn't look all bland and dead. It's much more fun to adventure when the landscapes are alive and full of color again! I can't wait!

  1. I love to buy mugs too! I've run out of room for them in my apartment though, so I have to wait for more space to buy any more. It's sad. I also love tea pots but I really don't have room for any more of those!
But anyway, I really like the barren orchard background for these photos! It's wintry and very cool looking. I love the way your green skater skirt looks against everything. It's so cute!

  4. I would to see some pictures of your mug collection. I have a collection of Disney mugs for Piglet and for the Nightmare Before Xmas that I collected for years when I was younger, I haven't added to the collection for about 4 years now. I guess, I'm almost collecting quirky animal prints clothes, or at least that's all I keep wanting to buy!. Don't think I have any other collections.

I love that colour of green on you. I love this outfit, I think it's one of my favourites this year!

  5. Absolutely love the emerald, it looks amazing paired with the contrasting dark hues.

I personally collect vintage suitcases, I actually sort of hoard them, but I have a hard time letting them sit places. My fiancee collects taxidermy so we have that all over the house. Collections are fun, I need something smaller and easier to collect haha

  6. Just saw this on the ModCloth Style gallery, I love it, such a great blend of colors and textures from the sweater to the tights, and it all looks like it was custom made to fit you.

  7. Just saw this on Modcloth's Style Gallery. I LOVE that cropped jacket! Unfortunately, it's nowhere to be found on Urban Outfitter's website :( I did, however, find the skirt. It's actually called the "Jess" skirt, and my name is Jess haha so I'm definitely going to get it! It's lovely. You've definitely inspired me! I was reading about how much you hate winter. It's summer here in Australia but we're having a very wintry day today - been raining ALL DAY. My favourite season is definitely autumn. I'm looking forward to wearing scarves and stockings and autumn hues :)
