Through The Grapevine

Last Saturday, Chris and I went to a vineyard to celebrate our anniversary! We went to do a wine tasting, but it wasn't really what I expected it to be. The place was nice and they also had a bistro where the food smelled delicious. I didn't really like the wines, except for one. I'm a fan of sweet and fruity so I liked the dessert wine they had, which I think they called a port. I'm not a huge wine drinker, but I want to find ones that I really like. So far I only really like Moscato, so I want to broaden my horizons.

The white wines all tasted the same and I didn't like them too much. They had all these delicious sounding flavors in them like apricot and lemon, but I couldn't taste any of it. And the red wines were the worst. It tasted like I was eating smoke or wood. But it could just be the way they make them. One of them had some sort of pepper flavor in it and I hated it. I could at least finish the white ones, but the red ones I just couldn't do. Maybe I would like more generic ones? I think we tried a Pinot Noir, which I thought was supposed to be fruity or berry-esque, but it wasn't. Maybe I'm expecting too much since I'm new to this, but I don't know.

The main reason that the wine tasting wasn't what I was expecting was that I didn't get to choose the wines I tasted. They had a giant list of options, but then they would just come around with the ones they chose. I don't know if this is standard practice at vineyards, but the wine tastings I've done at orchards that make their own wine let you choose the wines you want to taste. I also like the wines I've tasted at orchards, but maybe that's because they are usually fruit wines made with apples, strawberry, etc. I'm wondering if I just won't like traditional wines made with grapes and if I should just accept that...lol.

There weren't any grapes growing since it's still pretty chilly, so all the plants were bare. I'd like to go to more vineyards when it's really warmer out and maybe see the grapes and try my luck with more wine. It's a pretty inexpensive date, which is nice. This vineyard charged $15 and you got to keep the glass, but I know that other places charge only about $6 or $8! There's another one I want to go to that even has a picnic area, so that might be the next choice. They had wines that actually sounded really good and fruity, but I wanted to try more classic wines this time around.

Would you guess that Chris made this flower crown?! He made me three of them as one of my anniversary presents. :) One is just the yellow flowers, one is just the white, and then there's this one that's mixed. He knows me well. I love flower crowns, and I love having options...haha. He used hot glue, too, so they are pretty sturdy! He was also wearing one of his anniversary presents that day. I got him an all-over printed t-shirt of his favorite nebula with the Pillars of Creation! I'm so glad that he loved it. :)

The shoes I got in Florida at the outlet center that we always go to. They were on sale for only $35 from I think $70 or $80 and they were a color that I was sorta looking for, so I got them! I love the little silver detail on the heels. These were actually one of the only things I got in Florida, so I did pretty well at not spending a lot down there! By the way, my lipstick is by Too Faced and the shade is actually called Divine Wine, so that was very fitting for the day! :)

As I mentioned in a previous post, we had an awesome breakfast date before we went to the vineyard. It was really nice out, but pretty windy as you can tell from some of these pictures. There were definitely a lot of Marilyn moments whilst taking these pictures, as you can see from some of the ones above. The rest of the day was pretty relaxed, which is nice since our weeks can be pretty hectic. I love the weekends because I get a chance to both relax and explore. Oh, and sleep. :)

  1. Congratulations on your anniversary! My boy and I are actually about to celebrate ours too! I always thought having a date at a vineyard for wine tasting sounded quite romantic, but I have to say that I am in the same boat as you. I am just not one for wines. I've tried them and don't seem to see what the hype is. Perhaps it is one of those things were you have to warm up to the taste, but for me I don't see that happening soon! Lovely flower crown by the way, what a lovely gift from your boy.

  2. Happy anniversary!

You look lovely in this combo, and how sweet he made your crown.

As for wine- maybe try a blush wine or a dessert wine (Tokay wine is supposed to be a very good dessert wine) instead? I find both tend to be sweeter and have a less...strong taste than either white or red.

  3. Happy Anniversary!

I've always wanted to go to a wine tasting at a vineyard, but I'm sure I would be pretty picky lol. The hand-made flower crown is just too cute and so sweet of him! I am in love with that skirt with those shoes too. As annoying as the wind can be, I think the Marilyn-moments came out super cute <3

  4. Happy Anniversary!!! :D

I want to go wine tasting but I hate the taste of wine. Especially grapes haha. So conflicted because I'll like to drink "fancy" once. I didn't know there were other fruit wines.. sounds much better. Red wine is pretty gross to me XD

The flower crown is so cute!! How sweet. That's an awesome gift especially with options :D

  8. You look so cute, and good for Chris for making the crowns! So impressed! I am verrrry much the same way about wines... I only like sweet wines that are chilled, and even then, I'm really not a fan at all. But I actually really don't like alcohol in general (I only like drinks where you can't taste it!), soooo. But the important thing is you guys had a lovely anniversary, and got to spend time together :)

  9. Yay happy anniversary! You looked so pretty for your date! I love your new shoes and how that color looks with your pretty green skirt. This vineyard was a wonderful place for photos too!

I wasn't a huge fan of wine in my earlier booze-tasting years but I like it now. It's an acquired taste. The more you have it, the more you'll pick up the subtle tastes and you may even like it more. I think the same thing goes for beer, though I've always liked beer of all sorts. I'm not picky with foods/tastes at all though. Dessert wines are tasty though!

  10. Happy Anniversary! The vineyard date sounds really interesting. It's nice that you've got that as an option, and that you've been to so many different ones. I love the sound of the fruit wine tasting at the orchard you were talking about. I love your outfit, that skirt looks really soft and luxurious.

  13. oh man i love the pic of you two together, you are such cuties & i love both of your outfits! a vineyard tour always sounds like such a fun couple activity to me but then neither of us like wine & i've just had to accept that it gives me a headache and oh well. sounds like you two had a nice time even if the tastings weren't as you'd hoped.
