We're The Aquabats, And That's That

Last week, Chris, Nadia, her boyfriend and I all went up to Boston to see The Aquabats! I was super excited when I found out that they were finally touring the East Coast. They haven't toured here in years! I saw them at The Bamboozle festival a few years ago, but it wasn't their tour and their set wasn't very long because of that. This time was definitely more awesome. I got tickets as soon as they went on sale and counted down the days to the show.

Once their tour actually started, I noticed that they were posting Meet and Greet events on their Facebook page. They weren't posting them very far in advance, usually the night before the show or the morning of. Of course, I stalked their Facebook page like crazy the day or so before the Boston show and when the meet and greet for the show was finally announced, I got tickets! I MET THE AQUABATS, YOU GUYS. I realize that some people may not be too familiar with who they are, but they are one of my favorite bands ever, and I was so excited.

We had to arrive an hour early before doors opened and then we went in and waited a little bit. The Aquabats came out and did a quick soundcheck and then they came down and met with everyone. Chris had them all sign his ukulele and I had them all sign my ticket. They were all nice and there were actually a lot of kids there to meet them since they have their show on The Hub. Some of the kids were dressed up like them and it was adorable. Because of the meet and greet, I decided to bring a camera with me to the show, so I just took my old point and shoot since I didn't want to have my big DSLR there.

The show was good and they played a lot of my favorites. The only odd thing about the show was that because there were so many kids and the band wanted a safe environment for them, the older crowd couldn't go completely nuts during the songs. In fact, a security guard came and separated Chris and I when we were facing each other and skanking around. I felt like I was at a middle school dance. We were able to dance around and stuff, but we weren't able to go wild like we normally would, which was sort of a bummer, but I still had a great time. They put on a fun show that included a guy dressed up in a chicken suit, a quick fighting skit with some villains, and they even had inflatable pool toys for the crowd to pass around when they played Pool Party. Funtimes. We were staying with Chris's friend who also went to the show, so afterwards we just went back to his place and hung out until we all went to bed.

We spent the next day in the city, which is when I wore this outfit. We got awesome chili at New England Soup Factory and took a walk down Newbury Street. Later on, Chris led us to Mike's Pastry which is known for their really amazing cannoli. It was my first time trying them, and they did not disappoint. I told myself I would only eat half of it since we were going to have dinner soon, but I couldn't resist eating the whole thing. We had dinner at Fire & Ice, which is a crazy restaurant where it's buffet style, but everything is raw. You pick what you want to have cooked, along with what sauces and spices you want and then you bring it to this giant flattop grill and they cook it for you. The reason I say this restaurant is crazy is because it's all you can eat, which means you just want to lay down and die afterwards.

How awesome is my Jurassic Park pin, by the way? I got it at this weird vintage-esque pop culture store for like a dollar or two. I was so excited when I saw it! Anyway...I went to a couple of consignment shops, but didn't really find anything. We went to Newbury Comics and a couple of coffee shops too. I had a good time just walking around and eating awesome food, even though the weather was pretty chilly and a little rainy. It was still a great little mini vacation! :)

  1. Fun! I love Boston so much. My boyfriend and I got cannolis from Mike's Pastry and ate them after dinner (bad idea--we couldn't finish them!). The Fire & Ice place sounds really cool. I want to go back so bad!

  2. I adore that cat print dress and the photos of Boston, sounds like a lovely day c:

Gotta say I'm jealous that you met them! I saw them about 5 years ago before their show came out, so that's strange to imagine how different it must be with all the kids. Bummer you couldn't really skank or let loose, but still sounds like a great time. Their shows are definitely a blast and that's awesome you got to see them again!
