Citrus Grover

Our first day in Florida is always spent food shopping and then going to the citrus orchard to pick fresh oranges, grapefruits, and sometimes lemons. I love it because it allows me to get my fruit picking fix earlier than I would at home. The pick your own season doesn't start until June here, so it's nice to be able to go picking earlier than that.

It's actually kind of difficult to pick citrus, except for the lemons since they are lower to the ground. You use these pickers that are on sticks and it's kind of like a metal catchers mitt that you use to wrap around the oranges and yank them off. It's hard to get to an orange through the branches with all the spindles on the picker and then get it around it well enough, and THEN try to pull it off the branch. I always end up pulling it too hard and it just flies away from me to the ground.

I don't think I've ever actually worn my Florida dress in Florida, oddly enough, but now I did. I love that there are so many colors in it. It's very springy and it always makes me happy when I wear it. I finally got to wear the pink cat eye sunglasses that Sammi from The Soubrette Brunette sent me as part of a giveaway I had won through her blog. With my hot pink lipstick added in, I felt like Barbie!

This place (called the Showcase of Citrus) is HUGE. It can take a while to get to certain sections. For instance, the lemons were all the way in the back. It took us about 15-20 minutes just to get to them. They have a lot of different oranges, tangerines, and grapefruits. They also grow limes and blackberries, but they weren't in season yet.

They have a little market where they sell fruit already picked, as well as jams and honeys and more! They have slushies made with fresh fruit, too. I tried the strawberry lemonade one and it was delicious.

Monday is always a chill day since we usually get in late on Sunday night. But Tuesday we went to Universal because I could not wait to see Diagon Alley in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter...but more on that in my next post. ;)
