Block Island

A couple of weekends ago, Ashley and I took a day trip to Block Island. I had never been there and was always curious, so I was excited to finally go! It was such a nice day out, but then shortly after we got to the island it started to rain and it was very windy and chilly. Luckily, that passed and it was nice again towards the afternoon/evening.









The ferry ride was nice. I was able to sit and read my book for most of the ride, which was very relaxing. It doesn't take too long to get to the island and we took the earliest ferry so we would get there at a good time in mid-morning. We had some breakfast at a place called Ernie's. The food was pretty good, but I wasn't too thrilled with the service, or the fact that they have a surcharge for each egg they serve you because "the price of eggs has gone up". I'm not sure why they don't just raise the price of all the meals with eggs. After we ate, we went in some of the shops in the area.







We wanted to go to the Mohegan Bluffs and I especially wanted to see one of the lighthouses on the island, so once we were done at the shops, we headed towards the south end of the island. Along the way, we stopped at a petting zoo where they had geese, goats, a turtle, and other animals, then continued on to the lighthouse.











The bluffs had a great view. There are stairs that go down the cliff and lead to the beach. We went down them and then sat on a big rock on the beach for a while. By this time, it was nice out again so we were able to enjoy it.









Once we were done on the beach, we ended up getting some dinner at a Mexican restaurant. After that we just walked around and shopped some more. I ended up getting a fleece jacket because I was so cold by the time the sun went down. I'm glad I got it, too, because the ferry was super cold on the way home. We had a great day, and I'm glad that we didn't get entirely rained out! :)
