Stowe, VT

My friend Kirsty and I took an overnight trip to Stowe during Columbus Day weekend. I had always wanted to go to Stowe because in almost every article I read about the best places for fall foliage (or just fall in general) Stowe was always mentioned. It's such a cute town and it's full of beauty and awesome mountains full of colorful trees.

We explored a bunch along the scenic roads through town. We also attempted to go to Smuggler's Notch State Park, but we realized it's not so much a park but a mountain full of trails. The trails seemed a little too intense for us, so we decided to head elsewhere.

We took a short trail down to a waterfall in a different area of the mountain. We also visited Waterbury Center State Park which was more the kind of park we were looking for. There was a lake, views, grassy areas, and trails. We walked a bit of the trail then ventured off to try some cider and beer.

Stowe Cider has a tasting room that we went to to try a few of their different ciders. They had a couple of good ones, but none of them really stood out to me the way other ciders have. I like sweeter ciders and these were more dry and wine-like. Kirsty has wanted to go to the Alchemist brewery, but they were unfortunately closed on Sundays. We went to a place called Idletyme instead. They were more-so a restaurant that also brews their own beer. They had a sampler called a Brewski where they serve you a bunch of different beer samples on a mini ski.

I didn't know that Stowe was actually a pretty big destination in Vermont. I pictured a sleepy town with not much going on except pretty leaves and old buildings. There were so many restaurants, shops, parks, etc. I would love to spend more time up there and try some of the different restaurants. We ate at a place called The Blue Donkey and I had an awesome burger that had bacon, American and cheddar cheese, an onion ring, and BBQ sauce on it. They also had curly fries, which is always a plus in my book.

It was definitely a nice little quick getaway. I love Vermont in the fall! It's fun to explore different parts of it, but I would definitely want to check out more of what Stowe has to offer.

  1. Gorgeous photos! We had a great foliage season here in Vermont this year. I see from some of your other posts that you like to visit Vermont, and you were interested in the library in Woodstock. Sometime you might like to go to St. Johnsbury, which has a fabulous old library, the Athenaeum, which has some wonderful oil paintings to see too, and a great old natural history museum, fun 19th c. architecture, etc. Christie
